Review: RedLaser, The Must-Have iPhone App for Any Shopper
Posted on December 22, 2009 by eli courey
First of all, I’m not going to spend any time trying to compare features of RedLaser with any other barcode scanner available in the App Store. I’ve tried the other ones, and none of them come close to the ease of use and accuracy of RedLaser. In my extensive testing of RedLaser, I was very pleased and actually a little surprised with the results. It has become one of those apps for me that I just can’t remember how I lived without.
One of the most impressive aspects of RedLaser is the speed of the app. Just point the camera at any barcode, and RedLaser will scan it and quickly display information about the product and give you prices from many different retailers. It will show results from both online and local stores from TheFind and Google Products. This offers a very simple and fast way of making sure that you are getting the best price. The app will keep a list of all your scanned items as long as you want, and you can email a copy of the list to yourself or anyone else.
One thing I thought was cool about this app is that it can read the barcode without even taking a picture. Just line the barcode up with the arrows on the screen and it will beep when the scan is done. It works a lot like the scanners in the checkout lines at stores.
In my opinion, RedLaser is a must-have app for the iPhone. I’m sure many of you have taken out your iPhones while in stores to check prices online or other places, well this app makes that process much faster. RedLaser has found a spot on my main app page, and I don’t see myself moving it anytime soon. I highly recommend this app.
RedLaser is available in the App Store for $1.99.
