RUMOR: Multitasking Support to be Included in iPhone 4.0 Firmware

AppleInsider says that reliable sources are telling them to expect multitasking in Apple’s iPhone 4.0 firmware. The iPhone currently has limited multitasking with apps like iPod and Mail, but does not allow third-party apps to run in the background. The iPhone already does a great job at switching between apps, which could be considered multitasking, but allowing background processes would make it possible for a third-party music app like Pandora to play while doing other things like MMS or using Safari. Allowing background processes would also make it possible for location based services like Google Latitude to automatically update your location at set intervals. Of course, these features are already available on jailbroken iPhones.
