Review: Air Video Brings Your Entire Video Collection to Your iPad
Posted on April 17, 2010 by eli courey
Air Video is definitely a must-have app for the iPad. Since many videos are in formats not supported by the iPad, like AVI, DivX and MKV, Air Video does a live conversion on these files and streams them to your iPad over your local network or the Internet, even with 3G. So instead of taking days to convert your entire video library, Air Video makes it easy to play videos in almost every format.
I was able to install the server software on my media computer in about a minute. I couldn’t believe how easy it was. After installing the server software and pointing it to my video files, I launched the Air Video app on my iPad and could instantly start streaming all my videos. I was very impressed with the live conversion. It looks great and I had no problems with lag. You can even jump to different parts of the video and it will start playing almost instantly. There is also an option to download the video to your iPad. This is a good solution if you are planning on being somewhere without Internet access and still want to watch your videos.
One of the coolest things about Air Video is that you are no longer limited on your iPad storage space. Even if you have the 16GB iPad, you can install a 1TB or larger hard drive in your media computer and have access to your entire video library.
I still can’t believe the price of this app, it’s only $2.99!
Air Video works with the iPad, iPhone and iPod touch running OS 3.0 or above.
