Apple Hires Carbon Fiber Expert as Senior Composites Engineer

It was recently discovered that Apple has hired Kevin Keeney as a Senior Composites Engineer. Keeney is the CEO of Kestrel Bicycles, a carbon fiber bike manufacturer. He has previously worked with Apple on a carbon fiber shell patent in 2009.

With Keeney’s new position, it is likely that Apple could be getting ready to produce some products with carbon fiber. Apple currently uses aluminum for many of their products, but switching to carbon fiber would make the products even lighter and thinner, while maintaining the strength of aluminum.
