RUMOR: Apple Suppliers Preparing for Fall Launch of iPhone 5 and iPad 3

DigiTimes is reporting that suppliers in Apple’s manufacturing chain have orders to begin preparing for the production a next-generation iPhone and iPad. They claim the expected timeframe for debut is between September and October of this year.
Taiwan-based companies included in the supply chain for iPhone 5 and iPad 3 have begun to prepare materials for the production of the two devices, which are likely to make their debuts in September and to hit the market in October, according to industry sources. … The sources pointed out that Apple only plans to launch one model of the new iPhone, while iPad 3 has just recently been added to the production schedule with both set to be produced in small volumes in August and the volume will start picking up in September and October.
I think it’s pretty obvious a new iPhone will launch this fall, but I have a hard time believing that Apple will release an iPad 3 in 2011. Especially since Steve Jobs already said that 2011 will be “the year of the iPad 2.” The rumor of an iPad 3 being released in the fall has been going around for more than a few months now. Just as “sources” earlier this year started saying that the iPad 2 wouldn’t be released until June, I would bet money that they are wrong on this iPad 3 rumor too.
