RUMOR: Apple Discounting Magic Mouse in Favor of the Magic Trackpad

Posted on August 4, 2011 by

Cult of Mac says they have received information from a previously reliable source that Apple is discontinuing the Magic Mouse in favor of the Magic Trackpad. Their retail source has informed them that Magic Mouse inventory is not being replenished for Apple stores.

Since OS X Lion focuses heavily on gestures, a trackpad must be used to take full advantage of these new features. Of course a user could still use any Bluetooth or USB mouse with their Mac, but I wouldn’t be surprised if this report is true and Apple phases out the Magic Mouse. To be honest, although I use a Magic Mouse frequently, I’ve never really been too happy with it.

Of course, Cult of Mac’s source could be wrong and Apple may just be coming out with an updated version of the Magic Mouse.
