Apple is hosting a media event today at 10AM Pacific Time at the company’s headquarters in Cupertino, California. The event is titled “Let’s talk iPhone” and Apple is expected to unveil an iPhone 4S, iPhone 5 or maybe even both. The iPhone 4S would most likely look identical to the iPhone 4, but have a faster processor, more RAM and better camera, while the iPhone 5 would be a completely new hardware design with larger screen and possibly support 4G networks. I would put my money on only one iPhone being announced, the iPhone 4S.
The Wall Street Journal and Boy Genius Report started a new rumors yesterday. WSJ says that Sprint paid over 20 billion dollars for access to new iPhones through 2015. As part of the deal, Sprint would have to buy 30.5 million iPhones even if they were not able to sell them. BGR is claiming that Apple will release an iPhone 4S today on AT&T, Verizon and Sprint, but that Sprint will get exclusive access to the iPhone 5 when it is released. I’m guessing that WSJ is correct about the agreement between Apple and Sprint, but I think BGR is wrong about the iPhone 5 being a Sprint exclusive. I respect BGR, but their sources have been wrong in the past and I really hope they are on this one.
Other things Apple is expected to talk about today are iOS 5, iCloud and a new iPhone feature called Assistant,
