RUMOR: Chipmakers Bidding on Apple-Branded ‘iTV’ Contracts

There’s a new rumor today about an Apple-branded TV. DigiTimes reports that Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, Advanced Semiconductor Engineering and Siliconware Precision Industries are the three companies trying to get the contract to manufacture a custom chip for the “iTV.”
Since the current Apple TV runs on Apple’s custom A4 chip, it’s no surprise that they would put one of these chips in an Apple-branded TV, but these rumors could really just about an updated Apple TV device instead.
Yesterday DigiTimes reported that the iTV would be released Summer/Fall of 2012.
