How to Reset Lost or Forgotten Account Password in Mac OS X 10.7 Lion

Resetting a lost password in Mac OS X 10.7 Lion is pretty easy. Just follow these steps and you will be able to log onto your account again.
- Hold down the “Option” key at boot and select the “Recovery HD” disk
- Once the “Mac OS X Utilities” menue appears, click on the “Utilities” menue and select “Terminal”
- Type the following:
- Once the Reset Password utility loads, select your user account and then enter a password (don’t forget it this time)
To reset a password in previous versions of Mac OS X, boot from the install DVD by holding down the “C” key. Instead of going to “Terminal,” you will see a “Reset Password” option in the “Utilities” menu. Then just follow Step 4.
