Apple announced an updated Apple TV today that supports 1080p HD video. It also features an upgraded processor, going from an A4 chip in the previous Apple TV to an A5 chip to support the higher resolution output. The new Apple TV goes on sale March 16, but Apple is taking pre-orders on their website starting today. The price is still only $99.

Apple also announced an updated interface for the Apple TV, making it even easier to navigate to what you want to watch. Netflix, YouTube, Vimeo and other apps are no longer hidden under other menus, but displayed as very colorful and easy to see icons, similar to iPhone and iPad. The new interface is available today for the 2nd-generation Apple TV as a Software Update, and will be included on the new Apple TV when it launches on March 16.
