AT&T is launching its new Mobile Share data plans on August 23, allowing users to share their monthly data across multiple devices. AT&T released a statement noting that one of these new plans will be required to enable FaceTime over cellular, a new feature in iOS 6. Just another method AT&T is using to encourage customers to leave their grandfathered unlimited data plans.
AT&T will offer FaceTime over Cellular as an added benefit of our new Mobile Share data plans, which were created to meet customers’ growing data needs at a great value. With Mobile Share, the more data you use, the more you save. FaceTime will continue to be available over Wi-Fi for all our customers.
In the United States, Sprint has already announced it will not charge for FaceTime over cellular, and we are still waiting to find out what Verizon will do.
