Apple Officially Shuts Down Ping Social Network

Apple’s music-related social network, Ping, is now permanently offline. The service never got very popular and Apple officially shut it down on September 30, 2012. Ping no longer appears in the most recent version of iTunes.

Now that Ping is gone, Apple may replace the social element of iTunes with Twitter and Facebook integration. A completely redesigned version of iTunes is coming this month, and there may be features like this that haven’t been announced yet.
