Get Colored Icons from iTunes 9.2 Back Into 10

One of the first things I noticed about iTunes 10 was the colorless icons. I guess it’s not a big deal, but I’m happy to know that there’s a hack to get the old icons back.

Download this zip file and follow the instructions below:

Right click and “Show Package Contents” on iTunes to show ‘Contents’ folder. Back up and replace your /Applications/iTunes.app/Contents/Resources/iTunes.rsrc with the included file.

Apple Announces iOS 4.1 for iPhone

Steve Jobs announced the upcoming release of iOS 4.1 for iPhone and iPod touch. One of the major fixes will be the iPhone 4 proximity sensor issue.  Some new features to iOS 4.1 include HD video upload over WiFi, High Dynamic Range photos, TV show rentals and Apple’s Game Center.

High Dynamic Range photos are created out of a combination of three photos with low, medium and high exposure settings. This makes the photo more clear and vibrant.

Game Center, originally revealed for iOS 4, is another key feature of iOS 4.1 which allows users to add friends, play against friends and do all sorts of social gaming stuff on their iPhone. iOS 4.1 will be available for download via iTunes next week.

Charge Your iPhone with Sunlight

Frostfire created an iPhone case that has a rechargeable lithium-ion battery at the base with a small solar panel embedded on it to extend the battery life of your iPhone 4 while on the go. The Mooncharge battery case, when fully charged, will provide 315 hours on standby or 5 extra hours of talk time. Frostfire doesn’t indicate how long it will take for the battery to fully charge using the solar panel, but they do say that placing the case in the sun for 20 minutes gives about 50 minutes on standby or 5 minutes of talk time.

The Mooncharge Hybrid Solar Battery Case is available on their website for $69.99.

Google Goggles Coming to iPhone Soon

Google’s visual-search technology, Google Goggles, should be available for iPhone users later this year.

From The Register:

“We’re working on an iPhone version, and hope to have it out by the end of the year,” David Petrou, a Google staff engineer working on the Goggles project, told his keynote audience at Monday’s Hot Chips conference at Stanford University in California.

A web app for Goggles, Petrou said, isn’t current;y an option, even with HTML5′s enhanced media-capture abilities. “There is a new part of HTML5,” he said, “that allows you to acquire an image from a camera. And that’s really nice and really useful, but we don’t think it’s sufficient for something like Goggles that needs very fine control over the camera.

Google Mobile App Updated with Push Notifications

Google Mobile for iPhone has been updated to include push notifications for Gmail and Calendar.  I’m not sure exactly what the point of this new feature is, I prefer using Google Sync for my Gmail account on my iPhone.

Google Mobile is available for free in the App Store.
