Engadget has reviewed Nike’s new iPhone app, Nike+ GPS. This run-tracking app cost $1.99 and is available in the App Store. This Nike+ app does not require special Nike shoes with the sensor, it uses the iPhone’s GPS instead.

Nike’s dalliances with technology should be familiar to our readers by now, with the crowning jewel of course being the Nike+ run-tracking software that pairs a shoe-mounted sensor with your iPhone or iPod. Well, it was. The gargantuan sportswear company is moving with the times and throwing the hardware away with the introduction of its all-new Nike+ GPS application. No longer restricting our running shoe choice is groovy, but the app itself has the even loftier aim of simultaneously acting as your fitness guru, motivator and record keeper. And all it asks in return is access to the accelerometer and GPS modules in your iOS 4-equipped iPhone or iPod touch. So, let’s see how this baby runs, shall we?

Lifehacker has a video comparing the speed of the iPhone 3G running iOS 4.0 and 4.1. It looks like the iPhone 3G has some good speed improvements in 4.1, but still significantly slower than what you’ll get from an iPhone 4 or 3GS.

Apple announced today that in less than 48 hours since its launch on Wednesday, more than one million users have joined Ping, its new social network for music. Ping is integrated with iTunes and lets users follow their favorite artists and friends to discover what they’re listening to and downloading.

One-third of the people who have downloaded iTunes 10 have joined Ping,“ said Eddy Cue, Apple’s vice president of Internet Services. “As many more people download iTunes 10 in the coming weeks, we expect the Ping community to continue growing.
