Awesome iPod touch Video Wall (Video)

This might not be very useful, but I thought it was pretty cool.  Mongoose Studios has created a mini video wall out of 12 iPod touches.

New Video Drivers Hint at iMac and MacPro Updates

From MacRumors:

A couple of discoveries have revealed early Mac support for the high end ATI and NVIDIA graphics cards, raising hopes that Apple will soon be updating their desktop computers. Both the Mac Pro and iMacs are overdue for product refreshes with no solid timeframe for either update.

The newly released Mac mini has revealed a new set of ATI drivers buried within its default Mac OS X installation. New Macs always have a slightly newer version of the system software installed that provides support for the new hardware. In this case, the software also revealed early support for the ATI Radeon 5 series. Some tinkerers have been able to use the software to drive an ATI Radeon 5870 on an actual Mac Pro. Meanwhile, a recent NVIDIA Driver release have shown references to NVIDIA GeForce GTX 400 series support.

From YouTube:

Frash is a port of the Adobe Flash runtime for Android to the iPhone, using a compatibility layer, by comex ( http://twitter.com/comex ). Frash can currently run most Flash programs natively in the MobileSafari browser. Frash currently only runs on the iPad, but support for other devices (3GS+ only due to technical restrictions) is planned, as well as support for iOS 4.

A release is planned for when Frash is stable. Developers are welcome to join the effort at http://github.com/comex/frash – fork it and send a pull request with your patches.

Review: Air Display Lets You Use Your iPad as a Second Monitor

Air Display lets you use your iPad or iPhone as a secondary display on a Mac. You just install an extension on OS X and it will trick the OS into thinking your iPad or iPhone is a monitor. It works over your Wi-Fi connection, giving you a wireless monitor you can carry around anywhere in your house.

It works great if you need a little more screen space for email, notes or maybe your IM client. You can easily drag a window from your computer screen to the device. Another cool feature is that it lets you use your iPad or iPhone’s onscreen keyboard and also and works as a multi-touch input device.

I tested some videos with Air Display on the iPad and didn’t get the best results. The videos played okay in window mode, but as soon as I made it full screen they would start to lag. This isn’t a big drawback for me though, if I want to watch videos on my iPad I would much rather just use the native video player or another very cool app, Air Video.

For $9.99, this is a pretty cool app for the iPad. As far as the iPhone, the screen isn’t really large enough to be able to use it for much, but it is nice to be able to use it for multi-touch.

Air Display display is currently only compatible with Mac OS X 10.5.8 (Intel only) or higher. Windows support is coming soon.

Check it out in the App Store.

Letter from Apple Regarding iPhone 4

Although many blogs have been reporting on an “official statement” by Apple about “antenna problems” for over a week now, they failed to check the authenticity of it.  It turns out, as I first suspected, those statements did not originate from Apple, but instead from people who know how to spend the 5 seconds it takes to spoof Steve Jobs’ email address.  Today Apple has officially released a statement on the iPhone 4, and we can know for sure it’s real because you can find it on their Public Relations site at www.apple.com/pr.

Press Release:

Dear iPhone 4 Users,

The iPhone 4 has been the most successful product launch in Apple’s history. It has been judged by reviewers around the world to be the best smartphone ever, and users have told us that they love it. So we were surprised when we read reports of reception problems, and we immediately began investigating them. Here is what we have learned.

To start with, gripping almost any mobile phone in certain ways will reduce its reception by 1 or more bars. This is true of iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, as well as many Droid, Nokia and RIM phones. But some users have reported that iPhone 4 can drop 4 or 5 bars when tightly held in a way which covers the black strip in the lower left corner of the metal band. This is a far bigger drop than normal, and as a result some have accused the iPhone 4 of having a faulty antenna design.

At the same time, we continue to read articles and receive hundreds of emails from users saying that iPhone 4 reception is better than the iPhone 3GS. They are delighted. This matches our own experience and testing. What can explain all of this?

We have discovered the cause of this dramatic drop in bars, and it is both simple and surprising.
